A Dual Gate Spin Field Effect Transistor With Very Low Switching Voltage and Large ON-to-OFF Conductance Ratio

We propose and analyze a novel dual-gate Spin Field Effect Transistor (SpinFET) with half-metallic ferromagnetic source and drain contacts. The transistor has two gate pads that can be biased independently. It can be switched ON or OFF with a few mV change in the differential bias between the two pads, resulting in extremely low dynamic power dissipation during switching. The ratio of ON to OFF conductance remains fairly large (~ 60) up to a temperature of 10 K. This device also has excellent inverter characteristics, making it attractive for applications in low power and high density Boolean logic circuits

This article illustrates simulation optimization through an (s, S) inventory management system. In this system, the goal function to be minimized is the expected value of specific inventory costs. Moreover, specific constraints must be satisfied for some random simulation responses, namely the service or fill rate, and for some deterministic simulation inputs, namely the constraint sOptQuest software;Response Surface Methodology;Karesh-Kuhn-Tucker conditions;service constrained inventory system

Effects of scars on crystalline shell stability under external pressure

We study how the stability of spherical crystalline shells under external pressure is influenced by the defect structure. In particular, we compare stability for shells with a minimal set of topologically-required defects to shells with extended defect arrays (grain boundary "scars" with non-vanishing net disclination charge). We perform Monte Carlo simulations to compare how shells with and without scars deform quasi-statically under external hydrostatic pressure. We find that the critical pressure at which shells collapse is lowered for scarred configurations that break icosahedral symmetry and raised for scars that preserve icosahedral symmetry. The particular shapes which arise from breaking of an initial icosahedrally-symmetric shell depend on the F\"oppl-von K\'arm\'an number.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure

Empirical Determinations of Key Physical Parameters Related to Classical Double Radio Sources

    Get PDF
Multi-frequency radio observations of the radio bridge of powerful classical double radio sources can be used to determine: the beam power of the jets emanating from the AGN; the total time the source will actively produce jets that power large-scale radio emission; the thermal pressure of the medium in the vicinity of the radio source; and the total mass, including dark matter, of the galaxy or cluster of galaxies traced by the ambient gas that surrounds the radio source. The theoretical constructs that allow a determination of each of these quantities using radio observations are presented and discussed. Empirical determinations of each of these quantities are obtained and analyzed. A sample of 14 radio galaxies and 8 radio loud quasars with redshifts between zero and two for which there is enough radio information to be able to determine the physical parameters listed above was studied in detail. A Lower Bound for the First Passage Time Density of the Suprathreshold Ornstein-Uhlenbeck Process

We prove that the first passage time density ρ(t)\rho(t) for an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process X(t)X(t) obeying dX=βXdt+σdWdX=-\beta X dt + \sigma dW to reach a fixed threshold θ\theta from a suprathreshold initial condition x0>θ>0x_0>\theta>0 has a lower bound of the form ρ(t)>kexp[pe6βt]\rho(t)>k \exp\left[-p e^{6\beta t}\right] for positive constants kk and pp for times tt exceeding some positive value uu. We obtain explicit expressions for k,pk, p and uu in terms of β\beta, σ\sigma, x0x_0 and θ\theta, and discuss application of the results to the synchronization of periodically forced stochastic leaky integrate-and-fire model neurons.Comment: 15 pages, 1 figur
